Jared Slaughter brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and leadership to the OCBC coaching staff, with over a decade of success in both high school and AAU basketball. A proven leader with a deep passion for player development, Coach Slaughter has served as both a head coach and assistant across multiple competitive programs in Kentucky.
As a head coach, Slaughter led teams to several major milestones, including 3x KCSAA State Championships and the NCHBC Division II National Championship, earning him recognition as the KCSAA Coach of the Year in 2015. His head coaching tenures include stops at Heart for Christ, Christian Educational Consortium (CEC), and Portland Christian, where he consistently built competitive and disciplined programs.
In addition to his success as a head coach, Slaughter has contributed as a valuable assistant coach at powerhouse programs including Ballard High School and currently at Oldham County High School, where he works alongside Coach Chris Renner. His experience extends beyond the high school ranks, with over 10 years of involvement in high-level AAU basketball and shoe circuit programs, giving him a unique perspective on what it takes to compete and excel at the next level.
Coach Slaughter’s diverse background and deep understanding of the game make him an integral part of OCBC’s mission to elevate and empower the next generation of basketball players.
Coach Chris Renner is one of the most respected figures in Kentucky high school basketball, bringing over 27 years of coaching experience and a legacy of excellence to the OCBC leadership team. A KHSAA Hall of Fame inductee, Renner has spent the majority of his coaching career at the highest level, building championship-caliber programs and mentoring hundreds of student-athletes along the way.
His coaching journey began with the girls’ program at Southeast Christian, followed by a successful stint at Waggener High School. In 1998, Renner took over as the boys’ head coach at Louisville Ballard High School, where he led the Bruins for 24 seasons, establishing Ballard as a perennial state powerhouse. In just his first year, Renner guided Ballard to a KHSAA Sweet 16 appearance and the 1999 State Championship, setting the tone for what would become one of the most dominant coaching careers in the state.
Over his tenure, Renner accumulated numerous regional titles, Sweet 16 trips, and state-level accolades, consistently developing talent that would go on to compete at the collegiate and professional levels. His teams were known for their toughness, discipline, and unselfish style of play—values he now brings to Oldham County Basketball Club.
Currently serving as the head coach at Oldham County High School, Coach Renner continues to build a strong culture rooted in player development, team chemistry, and long-term growth. His passion for the game, commitment to fundamentals, and emphasis on doing things the right way make him a cornerstone of OCBC’s mission to build the next generation of high-level student-athletes.
Coach Matthew Teague brings a wealth of playing experience, leadership, and passion for player development to the OCBC leadership team. A former standout at Oldham County High School, Teague played a key role in one of the most successful eras in program history, leading the Colonels to two KHSAA State Tournament appearances during his time as a varsity athlete.
Following his high school success, Teague went on to enjoy a collegiate basketball career at both Kentucky Wesleyan and Transylvania University, where he was a standout contributor known for his basketball IQ, defensive tenacity, and team-first mentality. His time at the collegiate level not only sharpened his understanding of the game, but also laid the foundation for his future in coaching.
Now back with the Oldham County program, Teague serves as the head coach of the freshman team and an assistant with the varsity staff, where he plays a critical role in player development, scouting, and program culture. Known for his strong connection with student-athletes and attention to detail, he is deeply invested in helping young players prepare for success at the high school varsity level and beyond.
Coach Teague’s experience as both a high-performing player and a rising coach gives him a unique ability to relate to today’s athletes, making him a valuable asset to the OCBC mission of building skilled, confident, and competitive basketball players for the future.
Coach Tyler Gray brings high-level playing experience and a strong developmental mindset to the OCBC leadership team. A standout at Henry County High School, Gray made his mark as one of the program’s premier players before continuing his basketball journey at the collegiate level. He played at Drury University and later Spalding University, where he competed at a high level and built a deep understanding of the game.
Following his college career, Coach Gray returned to his alma mater to begin coaching, where he led both the freshman and junior varsity programs at Henry County High School, while also contributing as an integral member of the varsity coaching staff. His time there helped shape his approach to player development, team building, and culture-driven coaching.
Now serving as the Junior Varsity Head Coach and varsity assistant at Oldham County High School, Gray brings a contagious energy and competitive drive that elevates every practice and game environment. He plays a key role in mentoring athletes, preparing underclassmen for varsity play, and ensuring the consistency of the program’s core values across all levels.
Coach Gray’s passion for the game, commitment to teaching, and firsthand knowledge of the athlete’s journey make him a vital contributor to OCBC’s mission of developing well-rounded, high-IQ basketball players ready to succeed at the next level.
